After the break up of the family band, Johnny continued with smaller variations of the band and eventually joined forces with his long time friend, Jimi Heslin. This dynamic duo called themselves “You Fat Bastard” or UFB. UFB became the house band at Juniors in Poughkeepsie and played every Friday night for 14 years.
Johnny’s solo career ran concurrent with his bands and for 12 years. He played regularly in New York City at Parnell’s, Mimi’s and Forlini’s.
Johnny’s impressive career included theatre as well. He not only directed and produced, but played impressive roles, from Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof” to Max Bialystock in “The Producers”. His most notable production was “The Fat Pack” which enjoyed a long engagement at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.
Johnny has been recording throughout his 53 years. From writing advertisements to his own album, he has clocked countless hours in recording studios. He is most famous for authoring a local production of “Christmas in Poughkeepsie”, raising over $50,000 for charity.
Still performing, Johnny continues to work with his long time friends, Jimi Heslin and Timmy Herrmann, as well as his sister Geri at local venues and parties.
Johnny is now proudly working with his daughter, Kirsten Lee. They can be found every Thursday night at The SS Beverly Night Club in Le Chambord at Curry Estate.
We are thrilled and honored to be having dinner with Johnny at Carrie’s Korner... “Pull up a chair and join us!”
